Analytical Chemistry at UCI is organized into three thrust areas that coincide with the research interests and expertise of our faculty. These are: Environmental and atmospheric analysis (Blake, Finlayson-Pitts, Hemminger, Nizkorodov), Materials analysis (Hemminger, Penner), and Bioanalysis (Corn, Ge). Research in analytical chemistry is instrumentation intensive and interdisciplinary, drawing on nonconventional methods including silicon microfabrication, nanostructure synthesis and characterization, and the development of single particle/single cell analysis methods.
