We seek a candidate for the Laser Spectroscopy Labs (LSL) Graduate Fellowship opportunity. Successful candidates should have scientific interests in the area of physical chemistry, with an emphasis on ultrafast spectroscopy and the physics of unequilibrated condensed matter. The Fellowship will support a single graduate student for a period of one academic year.  The LSL Fellow will be directly involved with building the new Ultrafast Lab 2 within LSL, putting together and spearheading multiple nonlinear optical experiments and projects, including triple-color ultrafast electronic and vibrational spectroscopies, both in the time domain and in the spectral domain.

The candidate should have primary research interests and preliminary experience in at least one of the following areas: optical physical chemistry, optical condensed matter chemistry and physics, physical optics, linear and nonlinear spectroscopy, ultrafast phenomena and light-matter interactions. Knowledge of LabView, Python, ImageJ, Picromanager is a plus.

The selected candidate will be expected to spend up to 20 hours per week in the LSL and be involved with:

  • helping to manage existent research infrastructure
  • communicating with, educating, training, and helping other researchers in the Department of Chemistry with routine and advanced experiments in the areas of linear and nonlinear optics
  • helping to build and be involved with new projects within Ultrafast Lab 1 and Ultrafast Lab 2 of the LSL.

Appointment period: Appointment as a Fellow will be for the period commencing July 2024 and continuing through June 2025. In special circumstances the appointment can be renewed and extended beyond June 2025.

Submission and selection process: Application can be submitted online via a Google Form.  Notifications will be sent by the Chemistry Student Affairs Office. Selection of the LSL Fellow will be made by a committee comprised of LSL Director and Faculty/Chair Designee(s).
