In a recent JACS paper, Prof. Suzanne A. Blum and students Yili Shi, Katrina Roth, and Stephen Ramgren developed a "catalyzed catalysis" concept, whereby gold catalyzes the catalytic chemistry of palladium. This concept was showcased in the synthesis of butenolides and isocoumarins.
