Abstract: The synthesis of metal coordination complexes of non-innocent ligands aims to expand the reactivity profile of the metals. Our group has been interested in the preparation of Group 13 (Al, Ga, and In) coordination complexes implementing non-innocent ligands, with an end goal of realize new ways of making and breaking chemical bonds. This talk will specifically focus on the coordination chemistry of the tripodal, tris(nitroxide) ligand system [{(2‐tBuNO)C6H4CH2}3N]3− (TriNOx3−) with aluminium, gallium, and indium, and discusses the reaction of the (TriNOx3−)M (M = Al, Ga) with small molecule alcohol substrates. A discussion of how an interplay of metal Lewis acidity and alcohol O-H acidity dictate both the thermodynamic and kinetic properties of the reaction.
