The JMU Chemistry and Biochemistry Department is now searching for three tenure track positions. The search is described on the attached flyer.

The JMU chemistry department is an undergraduate-only program at an R2 institution. It houses over $10M in instrumentation that is well-suited for inorganic chemistry research. A sampling of instrument holdings include 600, 400, and 300 MHz NMR, several mass spectrometers, powder X-ray, scanning electron microscopes, and numerous analytical and spectroscopic instruments. All instrumentation is freely available to faculty and their students (e.g., no usage fees). They are also one of a few undergraduate departments that house a nuclear chemistry laboratory. More details about instrumentation and facilities may be found here: https://www.jmu.edu/chemistry/instrumentation.shtml

The department is actively committed to increasing the success of all students, attracting faculty and students with a range of backgrounds and experiences, and creating and sustaining a more inclusive work and learning environment. They are committed to excellence in undergraduate research and education, and believe in mentoring undergraduates to help them excel both personally and professionally. With 25 full-time faculty members, the department offers ACS certified degrees at the bachelors level, and teaches courses in all major areas of chemistry. They serve approximately 200 majors and about 3,000 undergraduate students each year. They offer a wide variety of courses for chemistry majors, other STEM majors, general education, and pre-health professionals. Majors are actively involved in SAACS, AXE, NOBCChE, and undergraduate research.

For the tenure-track positions, a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field is required. Teaching responsibilities include introductory and upper division courses and laboratories. Establishing an externally funded undergraduate research program is expected. Successful candidates will mentor undergraduates in research during the academic year and summer. Details about the application process are on the second page of the attached flier or in the job ad: https://joblink.jmu.edu/postings/15577. Review of application begins October 23.
