Abstract: My research group has an interest in molecular sciences to build fundamentally interesting and use-inspired chemical constructs. Our efforts include synthesizing and characterizing new materials for catalyzing a range of industrially relevant chemical transformations. During this seminar presentation, I will highlight experimental results and kinetic models describing the interplay between light absorption, charge transfer, and catalytic activity in molecular-modified semiconductors, where—in addition to chemical substrates—electrons and photons are required reagents. The assemblies used in this work resemble components of biological systems that carry out analogous chemical processes. Thus, nature provides inspiration and design considerations for the constructs we build and the chemistries we are developing.
